Filippo Timi was born in Perugia in 1974. He is an actor, director, playwright and author. In theatre, he has worked with directors such as Giorgio Barberio Corsetti and Elio De Capitani. In cinema, he has been directed by Ozpetek (in Saturn in Opposition), Salvatores (in As God Commands), Bellocchio (in Vincere), Cristina Comencini (in When the Night). For many, he is Massimo Viviani from Murders at BarLume.
Starting in October on Sky, Filippo Timi will play Enzo Vitello, a detective obsessed with a serial killer nicknamed Dostoevsky for his habit of leaving letters written in uppercase at the scene of the crime. Created by the D’Innocenzo Brothers, Dostoevsky was presented at the last Berlinale. ‘I feel as if I was part of the Sistine Chapel, a work made by two young Michelangelos who write extraordinarily well.’
Feltrinelli recently published his book Marilyn, a book so intimate as to fuse the diva and the author together, who enters the mind of the actress well before approaching her life between the sheets. He puts on her clothes, gives her body and voice, making it impossible to understand where one begins and the other ends. A book of words and drawings for a surreal journey en travestì.
Nominated for a David di Donatello for Vincere and for The Eight Mountains, a film in competition at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, he has won, among other awards, the Nastro d’argento for The Invisible Thread, the Pasinetti Prize at the Venice Film Festival for The Double Hour, and a Golden Globe for Foreign Bodies.
Filippo Timi loves working with emerging actors. Surrounded by next gen, he performed at the Roman theatre festival InDivenire: ‘Whenever I can, I choose to share the stage with younger people, because it’s a privilege to work with those representing the present and the future. Youth are lifeblood: I love their energy and the endless possibilities that open up when you create bonds with them, giving your whole soul.’
A Kubrick: lo considero come Leonardo da Vinci. Per ogni genere ha fatto un capolavoro. In 2001: Odissea nello spazio ha creato l’immaginario dello spazio; Shining, con le sue immagini oniriche, è il film hSpeaking about the photo shoot for MANINTOWN: I chose the artistic direction of the shooting as a short film in photographs, a poetic story. The hotel symbolises a human condition, a place of passage: it is borrowing a room of life. Which is what we do in our existence. We are the infinite, which becomes man. An individual who enters this hotel and lives a parenthesis: a spring, a summer, an autumn and a winter. Which is why we recreated the four seasons. I wanted four dancers to represent spring. It is a kind of universal story for images, with which fashion is also mixed.’
His favourite director is Stanley Kubrick: ‘He’s like Leonardo da Vinci for me. He has made a masterpiece in every genre. I consider Kubrick a poet first, then a filmmaker.’
In recent years, his deep voice in the theatre, at times disturbing, is accompanied by the enveloping and melancholic sound of the handpan and the celestial and magical notes of the Tibetan bell, sometimes filled with water, giving rise to evocative stagecraft transformed into sensory experiences.
Filippo is also one of the testimonials of the Senzatomica campaign for a world free of nuclear weapons. ‘I support Senzatomica because I want to help an atomic bomb of value explode in every single human being.’
